Our verdict

Is Les Arcs worth it? Yes — especially for intermediates, families and mixed-ability groups.

What stands out in Les Arcs is how well the mountain works for groups that do not all ski at the same level. There is enough straightforward terrain for less confident skiers, plenty of mileage for intermediates and enough vertical and more demanding terrain to stop stronger skiers feeling short-changed. The 200 km Les Arcs–Peisey-Vallandry area is substantial on its own, while Paradiski takes the linked total to 425 km.

We’d choose it for

  • Intermediate skiing
  • Mixed-ability groups
  • Huge linked mileage
  • Beginner progression

We’d think twice if

  • One traditional village centre is essential
  • You dislike large purpose-built resorts
  • Peak-time crowding would bother you

Our resort scores

Les Arcs ski resort rating: 9.0/10 worldwide.

These are our own scores, using the same scale for Les Arcs as we use for major ski resorts elsewhere in the world.

9.5+ Elite9.0+ World-class8.0+ Excellent
Snow & conditions

Snow reliability

9.0/10

Very strong overall. The area reaches 3,226 m at Aiguille Rouge, much of the skiing is high, and specialist testing rates Les Arcs highly for snow reliability. Lower sectors also have extensive snowmaking.

Terrain

Ski area & variety

9.5/10

Les Arcs–Peisey-Vallandry provides 200 km of pistes, while Paradiski extends the linked area to 425 km. The mix of high-alpine terrain, wooded sectors and village-to-village skiing is excellent.

Ability

Intermediate skiing

9.5/10

This is one of Les Arcs’ biggest strengths. There is a huge choice of cruising terrain, long descents and enough variety across the local and wider domains to keep confident intermediates moving all week.

Ability

Advanced skiing

9.0/10

Aiguille Rouge, long vertical descents and extensive freeride terrain give strong skiers serious scope. The expert piste offering is not as dominant as the intermediate terrain, but the overall mountain is highly capable.

Ability

Beginner skiing

9.5/10

Les Arcs is exceptionally well set up for learning, with dedicated progression areas and staged beginner routes. Arc 1800 and Arc 2000 both have structured zones for first turns and first descents.

Infrastructure

Lifts & ski access

9.0/10

The network is strong and access from the main mountain resorts is generally excellent. The funicular also links Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Arc 1600, although some key lifts and pistes can become busy at peak times.

Resort feel

Après & atmosphere

8.0/10

Arc 1800 has the strongest après scene, including La Folie Douce, while the other sites range from quiet to family-focused. The choice is useful, but the resort feels more fragmented than a single compact ski town.

Value

Value for money

8.5/10

The local area delivers a lot of skiing for the spend and accommodation choice is broad. A full Paradiski pass raises the total cost, so value is best when your group will actually use the wider 425 km domain.

Worldwide scoring: the eight categories average exactly 9.0/10. A 9+ score means the resort competes with the best international destinations in that category; value measures what you get for the spend, not whether the holiday is cheap.

Skiing review

Les Arcs skiing review: beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers.

On the mountain, Les Arcs feels unusually easy to share between different ability levels. Beginners have room to progress, intermediates can keep moving for days, and stronger skiers still have enough steeper terrain and vertical to make the resort feel substantial.

Excellent

Snow reliability

The ski area tops out at 3,226 m and has a strong snow-reliability profile. The 2026/27 Les Arcs–Peisey-Vallandry winter season is scheduled from 12 December to 24 April.

Excellent

Intermediates

This is where Les Arcs is at its most convincing. There is a lot of comfortable mileage, enough variation to keep moving across the area and far less sense of repeating the same few runs over a week.

Strong

Advanced skiers

Les Arcs is better for advanced skiers than its family-friendly reputation suggests. The vertical, high-alpine terrain and more demanding options around the upper mountain give stronger skiers genuine reasons to explore.

Excellent

Beginners

The beginner setup gives new skiers a sensible progression without making the whole trip feel confined to one tiny nursery area. That makes Les Arcs easier to recommend to groups mixing learners with more experienced skiers.

Who Les Arcs suits

Who is Les Arcs best for?

Our strongest recommendation is for intermediates, families and mixed-ability groups that want a large ski area without making the holiday difficult for the least experienced skier.

Les Arcs is a strong fit if…

  • You are an intermediate who wants a huge choice of cruising terrain.
  • Your group mixes beginners, intermediates and stronger skiers.
  • You want the option of 425 km of linked Paradiski skiing.
  • You value ski-in/ski-out style convenience and several resort bases to choose from.

Compare another resort if…

  • You want one compact traditional Alpine village with a single centre.
  • You dislike purpose-built architecture or large French ski domains.
  • You want a resort where nightlife is equally strong in every accommodation area.
  • Your group is unlikely to use either the 200 km local area or the Paradiski link.

Pros, cons & trade-offs

Les Arcs pros and cons: huge variety, but no single resort personality.

The biggest weakness is also part of what gives Les Arcs its range: it does not feel like one unified ski town. The skiing connects the holiday more convincingly than the resort centres do.

Resort character

There is no single Les Arcs atmosphere

The separate resort areas can feel noticeably different from one another. That gives you choice, but anyone wanting one clear village centre and one consistent atmosphere may find the resort fragmented.

Architecture

Purpose-built design is part of the Les Arcs identity

The architecture is historically important and deliberately modern, but it will not suit everyone. Travellers wanting chalet-lined streets and a conventional old Alpine village may prefer another resort.

Scale

Paradiski is valuable only if you use the extra mileage

The 425 km linked domain is a major strength for keen skiers. Complete beginners and lighter skiers may get much less from that scale, so the headline size should not be treated as an automatic advantage for every group.

Après-ski

Nightlife is uneven across the resort

Les Arcs can deliver lively après, but it is not evenly spread across every base. If evenings matter as much as the skiing, the resort can feel very different depending on where the accommodation is.

Practical Les Arcs information

Before choosing Les Arcs

When Les Arcs may not be the right resort for you.

Les Arcs is easy to recommend as an all-round ski area, but it is a less obvious fit if you want one traditional village, consistent nightlife or a smaller resort where the full domain is relevant to everyone.

01

Do you want one obvious village centre?

Les Arcs is spread across separate resort areas. If you want one compact centre where the whole holiday feels concentrated in the same place, another resort may suit you better.

02

Will you use the scale?

The local ski area is already large. If your group prefers shorter ski days or will stay close to home, the 425 km Paradiski headline may matter less than it first appears.

03

How much does traditional Alpine character matter?

Purpose-built design is a visible part of Les Arcs. If chalet-lined streets and an old village centre are central to the holiday, that may be a bigger drawback than the skiing can offset.

04

Do you expect the same atmosphere everywhere?

The evening scene changes considerably across Les Arcs. Groups that want a reliably lively resort from door to door may find that inconsistency frustrating.
