Tignes Ski Resort Guide 2026/27

What many people don’t realise before booking Tignes is that it isn’t one compact resort centre. It is spread across five villages, from Les Brévières at 1,550 m to Val Claret at 2,150 m, and where you stay changes which lifts you use, how you get around and how easy it is to reach ski school and local services. This guide explains how the villages fit together, how to get to Tignes and move around once you are there, plus the published 2026/27 opening dates, ski-pass prices and beginner areas.

Resort layout

How Tignes works: five villages, not one compact resort centre

Lavachet, Le Lac and Val Claret form the upper resort around 2,050–2,150 m. Tignes 1800 sits lower down, and Les Brévières is below the dam at 1,550 m. The buses and ski lifts connect them, but they are not interchangeable addresses.

Upper Tignes, Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières

The three upper villages sit on the Tignes 2100 shuttle circuit. Route 02 connects Tignes 1800 with the upper resort, while Route 03 links Les Brévières with Tignes 1800. Above the villages, the ski area rises to 3,456 m at the Grande Motte.

The marked pistes extend from Tignes into Val d’Isère, giving more than 300 km of linked skiing. Around the resort itself, the village and shuttle map tells you where each base sits and how the lower villages connect with Tignes 2100.

The villages differ in altitude, services, beginner facilities and bus connections. Those differences matter when you are choosing an address and working out how you will move around the resort.

Val Claret is the highest Tignes village. Official resort information places restaurants, bars, nightlife and sports facilities in Val Claret. It also sits on the upper Tignes 2100 shuttle circuit with Le Lac and Lavachet.

Tignes le Lac

Le Lac is the main service hub in the upper resort, with shops, resort services and the Lagon wellness centre. Route 01 connects it with Lavachet and Val Claret.

Le Lavachet

Lavachet has restaurants, bars and shops and is part of the same Route 01 circuit as Le Lac and Val Claret. That bus link is the main off-ski connection between the three upper villages.

Tignes 1800 is built around the church and sits below the upper resort. The village has a beginner area and a ski-in/ski-out return; Route 02 provides the bus connection up to Tignes 2100.

Les Brévières sits below the dam at 1,550 m, with chalets, restaurants and larch trees. It links towards Tignes 1800 on the mountain, while Route 03 provides the off-ski bus connection between the two villages.

Les Brévières: it sits about 500–600 vertical metres below the upper Tignes villages, so its transfer, bus and lift connections are different from Tignes 2100.

Route 01 serves Lavachet, Le Lac and Val Claret. Route 02 connects Tignes 1800 with the upper resort, Route 03 links Les Brévières with Tignes 1800, and an additional service runs between Tignes and Val d’Isère.

Route 01 runs between Lavachet, Le Lac and Val Claret. Route 02 connects Tignes 1800 with the upper resort, and Route 03 links Les Brévières with Tignes 1800. Timetables change through the season.

The live map shows how each village feeds into the ski area, whether the links towards Val d’Isère are open and which lifts you need for the journey back. It also marks the local progression areas used by beginners.

Starting on the free lifts

There are nine free beginner lifts across the resort’s progression areas. If lessons start in one of them, save the exact meeting point and the route from your accommodation.

Using the wider ski area

The live map shows the lift connections across Tignes and into Val d’Isère. Before heading across the linked area, note which lifts you need for the return to your village.

Off-piste safety

Off-piste terrain is not marked, secured or patrolled in the same way as pistes. Use the avalanche bulletin and current mountain information before leaving marked runs.

How to get to Tignes: Bourg-Saint-Maurice, airports and transfers

The nearest railway station is Bourg-Saint-Maurice. From there the road climbs to Tignes; airport arrivals join the same final approach after travelling from Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble or Chambéry.

Tignes by train

Bourg-Saint-Maurice is the nearest rail station, around 30 km away. Tignes gives an indicative onward time of about 40 minutes by bus or taxi.

Bourg-Saint-Maurice transfers

Scheduled coaches connect Bourg-Saint-Maurice with Tignes, but services may call at different villages. Make sure the stop on the ticket matches your accommodation.

  • Winter traffic and snowfall can lengthen the road journey

Driving to Tignes

The published driving route runs via the A430 towards Albertville, the N90 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and then the D902 up to Tignes.

  • Do not follow winter GPS routes over the Petit Saint Bernard or Iseran passes
  • Winter parking in Tignes is chargeable
  • Parking can be reserved before arrival

Tignes airport transfers

The resort names Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambéry as its main airports. From any of them, the onward journey is by coach or shuttle, hire car, taxi or VTC.

  • Geneva and Lyon: around 3h in normal conditions

Tignes ski season 2026/27: opening dates and ski-area phases

Tignes publishes a winter season from 21 November 2026 to 2 May 2027. Lift and piste operation changes across opening week, early December, the main winter period and closing week.

The Tignes ski area is scheduled to open progressively. Opening-week ski-pass prices had not been published when these details were checked on 14 August 2026.

28 Nov–11 Dec

Linked-area preview

The Tignes–Val d’Isère link is scheduled to open progressively from 28 November. A separate reduced price is published for this period.

12 Dec–23 Apr

Main winter period

This is the published period for full operation of the Tignes–Val d’Isère area, subject to snow, weather and operating conditions.

24 Apr–2 May

Closing week

Reduced pricing applies again. Piste and lift operation can differ from the main winter period, so use the live resort information close to travel.

The official price list includes both Tignes-only access and the linked Tignes–Val d’Isère area. The figures below apply to the main winter period from 12 December 2026 to 23 April 2027.

Tignes for families: ski school, children and non-ski days

Family services and beginner areas are spread across the resort. For lessons or childcare, save the exact meeting point and work out the route from your accommodation before the first morning.

Ski-school mornings

Le Lac, Val Claret and Les Brévières are the villages named for family services, while free beginner areas are spread more widely. Save the exact meeting point and work backwards to the walking or bus route from your accommodation.

Moving around without skis

Winter activity information includes snowshoeing, dog sledding, sledging and other snow activities away from normal piste skiing. Selected lifts also take pedestrians with the appropriate pass, so the village, lift and bus maps still matter on a non-ski day.

A booking may simply say “Tignes”, but the details that matter are usually a village, stop or meeting point. Keep these six details with your travel information.

Write down whether the address is in Val Claret, Le Lac, Lavachet, Tignes 1800 or Les Brévières.

November, early December and the final spring week have different published operations from the main winter period.
